Mad River Park Recreation Fields

Owned by the Mad River Valley Recreation District, Mad River Park Recreation Fields serve the towns of Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, and Warren.

Surrounded by a walking path with benches, the ten acres of open space provide community fields for soccer, lacrosse, and other field sports. With its roofed pavilion which is available for rental, the Mad River Recreation Fields are a hub for community activity. The fields were purchased in 2017 with the help of a grant from the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation, support from the towns of Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield, and Warren as well as individual and business donations.

In 2022 we began fundraising for a well, electricity, below ground hydrants and an above ground irrigation system. In 2023 the system became operational and we would like to thank: Lawson’s Finest Liquids, The Foundation for Rural Service, Waitsfield Champlain Telecom, Mad River Youth Lacrosse, Mad River Valley Soccer Association, MRV Rotary, Washington Electric Company, Kingsbury Construction, The Alchemist Foundation, Mike Krupka and others. Our healthy green grass is all because of you!

Field Usage

Mad River Park Recreation Fields have two seasons. They are “officially open” mid April, after the fields dry out and the grass starts to come in and close in early November. Then they are closed until enough snow has accumulated to use the fields for winter sports.

In order to keep the grass healthy the fields can not be used in late winter or early spring when they are wet. Each year in the spring MRVRD will announce when the fields will open. Check here, Front Porch Forum and signs at the park listing the spring opening date.

Please Note: Use of the road adjacent to Mad River Park Recreation Fields is not permitted. Please use the parking lot for parking and dropping off. If the lot is full, please park on Airport Rd.

When using our fields, please:

  • Respect other users

  • Non-registered users (pick-up games) must yield to registered users

  • No driving or parking on the fields

  • All trash/equipment must be removed after events

  • Do not move equipment without prior authorization

  • No dogs, alcohol, fires, fireworks, firearms or camping unless otherwise permitted

  • Golfing is not permitted

  • Overnight parking in the parking lot is not permitted

Youth Sports Visitors, please keep the following in mind:

  • This is a game, being played by children - let’s have fun!

  • The coaches are volunteers

  • The referees are human (and in some cases, just children too)

  • Play hard and play fair
